learning to dream + grow

When I was little, I dreamed of being "all grown up". In my mind it seemed like such an extraordinary thing, a place where nothing would be impossible. I could change the world. But then life happened and things started to change me. I still dreamed, but they seemed more and more like fantasies - not things that I could actually do or were realistic. Now in this season of growing up, it doesn't feel quite as magical as it seemed back when I was a kid. Because there's one little factor that I hadn't quite grasped yet...growing involves change.

Change is one of those words that evokes a mix of emotions in my mind. On one hand, it's an exciting word full of possibility and adventure. On the other hand, it's scary because it means that I could loose the things that are comfortable and familiar to me. And honestly, some days I just don't want everything to change. I want to go back to those days when everything was as simple as deciding what outfit I wanted to wear or what game I wanted to play with my friends. Yet I know that this is also a beautiful season, full of things that God wants to teach me and amazing adventures He wants to take me on. I'm learning to trust in Him, knowing that He will give strength through whatever changes must take place.

"Fear kills more dreams than failure." This simple sentence jumped out of a song and stuck in my mind. When I was young and full of dreams, they seemed only a skip away from reality. But now I look at opportunities and there are times that fear begins to creep in. Fear of the unknown and doubts that I'm adequate. If allowed to reside in my mind, the fear begins to kill dreams. But when I immerse myself in God's Word, truth comes flooding in, crushing the fear. I, myself, am not adequate - but in Christ I am fully equipped and adequate for whatever He calls me to. I may not know all the details - but God does, and His ways are higher than mine. So my heart can rest in His peace, knowing that whatever change may happen, He is in control.

Growing up certainly involves a lot of change - and some days it hurts. But in these times of change and uncertainty, I know without a doubt that I have an unchanging Rock that I can cling to. An anchor that holds me steady and calms my heart. I'm learning to let go and embrace change. To dream again, and not let fear hold me back when God asks me to take a leap of faith. Because as I seek God, He is aligning my heart with His dreams - but those dreams require change in some shape or form. So I'm taking a deep breath and letting go - learning to grow and learning to dream again.

new beginnings.

I feel as if I'm revisiting a forgotten book, pulling it from the deepest corner of the bookshelf and carefully blowing the dust from it's cover. The tiny particles float into the air, quietly catching the sunlight that filters through the window. A content smile appears as I take in the simple beauty.
Yes, it's good to be back.

I honestly didn't think I would be returning this corner of the internet, and I'm still not exactly sure why I'm back. I have far less time for writing than I previously had, and yet something inside me misses having a little place where I can create with words. Nothing fancy - just the thoughts and ponderings of someone who loves finding beauty in the little things and desires to chase after God wholeheartedly. Even though no words can accurately describe all that God has been doing in my life, I want to share a little taste of it with you in hopes that it will encourage you to go on grand adventures with Him. I'm finding that life is truly a beautiful journey with Christ. It's not always easy, but it is so very worth it.

Sometime a little freshening up is all you need to keep the inspiration flowing. It was much needed here, and explains the updated design and name. New seasons of life bring new growth, and so these little changes are a simple reflection of that.

So I'm dusting off the cover of this old book and opening the pages once again.
I guess we'll just have to see where this journey leads.

The art of celebration

It's easy to find things to complain about.

I got four wisdom teeth removed yesterday, and I now look (and feel) like a bloated chipmunk. It's quite a sight. Yet as I was laying in bed last night and my mind started to wander to all of the negative things that accompany this lovely procedure, I was reminded of a verse in 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, "Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for the this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus."

Joy is a choice. Thankfulness is a choice. In every circumstance I face, I have a choice. I can allow myself to dwell on the pain and negative elements, or I can look for the things to be thankful about. I can be thankful for time to relax. For mocha frappes that my wonderful dad brings me. For pain medication. For sunshine. The list can go on and on.

I don't know what you are facing today, but I just want to remind you that there are always things to rejoice about. Does that mean that we are always smiling and life is always easy? Absolutely not. Life isn't all butterflies and rainbows. There is real hurt and real pain. But stop. Right now. Take a look around you. What do you have to be thankful for? If nothing else, we can rest in the assurance of our Savior's love and praise Him that all things work together for the good of those who love Him.

You are loved. You are precious.
And that is something to celebrate no matter what you are facing.
